Angie (Angeliki) Parthenakis passed away peacefully at the age of 80 surrounded by her loving family.
Angie was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 13, 1942. She was raised in Walnut Hills where her Greek immigrant parents thrived in several small businesses, including a hat and shoe repair shop at Peebles Corner at East McMillan. Angie married her high school sweetheart, Nicholas Parthenakis, on June 2, 1963. They grew up at Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, where they were both active their entire lives, from Sunday School and Greek school to being on countless committees through the decades, working together for the church and faith they loved. They served as chairmen for the Panegyri and the International Folk Festival. In their youth they sang together in the Church choir where they met and fell in love as young adults. They were active in senior GOYA - Greek Orthodox Youth of America. They made lifelong friends and shared many happy memories of performing in original Greek plays and lots of happy outings with their Senior GOYAN friends. Angie was an active member of The Ladies Philoptochos, the women’s auxiliary organization of the Church. Their faith and culture brought them together, and together they created a beautiful life. Angie is a 1961 graduate of Withrow High School and studied to become an administrative secretary working at Blue Cross/Blue Shield following graduation. As a newlywed, Angie worked at Chemical Abstracts, supporting Nick through six years of Ohio State Optometry School. When her kids were of school age, she enjoyed her work as a nursery school teacher at a neighborhood church.
Angie would go on to run Nick’s optometric practice for several decades after raising her family.
Angie is preceded in death by her parents, William (Vasilios) and Marina Zoes of Argos, Greece, her husband Nicholas, and sister Voula Pappas.
Angie’s home was the center of family life for over five decades. Angie is survived by her two children, Presvytera Lisa Christakis (Fr. Christos) of Buffalo, NY and Michael Parthenakis of Cincinnati, who loved and adored her and are forever grateful to their mother’s kind, gentle, quiet, loving and nurturing nature. Angie took pride in caring for her children, giving them a life rich in education and travel opportunities that she sought for them to enjoy and pursue their interests. The highlight of her life were her four beautiful, devoted and loving grandchildren, Basil, Nicholas, Jonah and Maria~Angelica Christakis, who adored and respected her greatly, making many trips to Cincinnati to visit her and care for her during the last years of her life along with their beloved Uncle Michael, who was devoted to the care of his mom during her final years. Angie was a proud Yiayia who made life special for her grandchildren, creating many holiday memories and decades of memories spent together on family trips. Angie was loved by all who knew her. She was an excellent cook, hostess, neighbor, friend, and altruistic and generous to all the patients she cared for through the years in running the family Optometry practice in Mount Healthy. Her friends and neighbors especially loved receiving gifts of her delicious Baklava and Greek pastries.
Angie is survived by her loving sister, Roselyn Hiller, and ten nieces and nephews, who loved to visit her warm home and enjoy her beautiful cooking and baking, giving her the loving moniker of St. Angie.
Angie knew that this life was not the end. She will be very much missed. We live in the hope of the Resurrected Christ that we will be united again for eternity. May our Lord receive her in His Kingdom and may she rest with the Saints.
