Sherry was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Hasselfeld, Jr., and the cherished daughter of the late Carl and Georgia Mae Rester. She is survived by her brother, Michael (Carolyn) Rester. Sherry was the loving mother of Nancy (Steve) Dawson and the late Robert E. Hasselfeld, III (Kimberly), and a devoted grandmother to Steve (Stacy) Dawson, Jr., Nick (Amanda) Dawson, Jon Dawson, the late Christopher Dawson, Kathryn (Chris) Satcher, Robert E. Hasselfeld, IV (Mary), Karolyn Hasselfeld (Eric Camerer), and Elizabeth Hasselfeld. She was also a treasured great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren and is remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews.

Sherry met her husband, Bob, while he was serving as an instructor of Air Force radar and radio systems at Keesler Air Force Base. They first connected at an evening church party, where Sherry was looking for a lift home, and Bob kindly offered to give her one. They have been together ever since. The couple lived in Plattsburgh, NY, and Huntsville, AL, before settling in West Chester in 1972, where they built a life full of community, friendship, and faith.

A woman of generous spirit and tireless heart, Sherry devoted herself to her community in countless ways. She was a member of the Alabama and Ohio Chapters of Beta Sigma Phi, the world’s largest non-collegiate international women’s social and service organization. In 1976, she helped found the Mason/West Chester Welcome Wagon Club (now Welcomers Club of Northern Cincinnati), bringing warmth and connection to new families in the area. She served as an active CASA volunteer for PARACHUTE Butler County, advocating for children in need. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and one of the founding organizers of the beloved Lakota Craft Show.

In quieter moments, Sherry delighted in playing bridge with her friends, working in her garden, curling up with a good book, and shopping both online and at the mall. Those who traveled with her knew they would stop at every Cracker Barrel along the way. According to Sherry, they had the best bathrooms, and you got to shop while you stretched your legs.

Above all, Sherry loved God with her whole heart. Her faith was a steady and radiant presence in her life, nurtured and deepened through countless conversations with her brother, Pastor Mike Rester.

Sherry’s granddaughter, Karly, spent the last two years as Sherry’s caregiver. Sherry let Karly set up a craft station in her home, offered her artistic eye on projects, and gave Karly the time to build the first chapter of her nonprofit here in Cincinnati. Karly and her colleagues founded Final Strike Collaborative five years ago in NYC and are thankful for every ounce of Sherry’s support, because without her, they would not have been able to start here in the Queen City.

Final Strike Collaborative is an organization dedicated to reducing material waste in the entertainment industry through art, creation, and education — a cause that reflects the creativity and purposefulness Sherry so admired.

In Sherry’s memory, the family invites contributions to Final Strike Collaborative.
