Bonnie K. Smith, born March 8, 1943, in Englewood, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of dedication, warmth, and community spirit that touched all who knew her.
A lifelong learner and devoted educator, Bonnie graduated from Colonel White High School in Dayton, Ohio, in 1961 before continuing her studies at the University of Cincinnati. There, she was an active member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She devoted over 20 years to teaching, beginning her career at Diamond Oaks Vocational School and later serving many years at Trask Middle School in Wilmington, North Carolina. Bonnie’s commitment to education fostered a nurturing environment for countless students, inspiring them to reach their full potential.
Bonnie’s pride extended beyond her professional life. A passionate gardener, she found joy in cultivating her garden, a peaceful sanctuary where she spent many hours. She cherished family above all else, delighting in attending her family’s sporting events and treasuring the times when everyone could get together for holidays and special occasions.
Her dedication to community service was exemplary. Bonnie had been a faithful member of Faith Community United Methodist Church for many years, volunteering several times a week at their food pantry. She also remained actively engaged with her high school and her classmates, organizing reunions and events, a testament to her loyalty and love for lifelong friendships.
Bonnie is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Wendy (Tom) McCormick; step-son, Steve (Kimberly) Smith; grandchildren, Connor (Elizabeth) McCormick, Logan (Lakin) McCormick, Nolan McCormick, Sarah (Ben) Music, Adam (Keisha) Smith, Tim (Amber) Smith, Ryan Hernandez, and Jake DeLacey; great-grandchildren, Henry, Abby, Everett, Clara, Grace, and Aubrey; nephew, Phil (Heather) Campbell and their children, Aiden and Henley; her beloved dog, Scout; and many cherished lifelong friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Glennis Puterbaugh; her beloved husband, John Smith; stepdaughter, Christina DeLacey; and her brother, Tom Puterbaugh.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040. A Celebration of Life service will begin immediately following the visitation at 12:00 PM.
