Carol J. Walz, beloved wife of the late Robert E. Walz for 60 devoted years, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born and raised in Martins Ferry, Ohio, Carol was a woman of quiet strength, warm grace, and an abiding love for family. She attended St. Clairsville High School before going on to The Ohio State University and later earning her elementary education degree from West Liberty State Teachers College.
Carol and Bob built a life together that took them from Madeira to Coral Springs, Florida, before settling in Sharonville, where they made their home on Cornell Road for the rest of their lives. Neighbors and friends often spotted the two of them walking their dogs along the Sharon Woods lake trail.
Carol served as a substitute teacher for kindergarten through third grade in the Princeton School District until 1991, when she stepped away from the classroom to take on what she considered her most important role yet: devoted day care grandmother to her eight grandchildren. She was there for every soccer game and basketball game, every band performance, every dance recital and theater production.
Known lovingly as Meema Carol, she was a vibrant, joyful presence in the lives of all who called her family. She was especially delighted to welcome two great-granddaughters into the world before her passing.
Carol is survived by her children, Kimberly (late Robert) Hasselfeld and Jim (Becky) Walz; Becky Winslow, who she loved as her own; her grandchildren, Matthew, Katie, Robert, Nick, Nathan, Karly, James, and Liesl; and her great-granddaughters, Maya and Winona.
Carol was a lifelong theatre enthusiast who passed that love on to her grandchildren, most especially her granddaughter Karly, who has turned that passion into a career backstage. Karly and her colleagues founded Final Strike Collaborative, an organization dedicated to reducing material waste in the entertainment industry through art, creation, and education.
In Carol's memory, the family invites contributions to Final Strike Collaborative. Donations directly support their programs and help salvage theatrical waste in meaningful and creative ways. To donate, please visit: www.finalstrikecollaborative.com/donate
