Cheri Lynn McCurley (nee St John), born on December 15, 1969, in Los Angeles, California, passed peacefully on January 19, 2026, at the Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash, Ohio, after a courageous 12-year battle with breast cancer. Cheri's journey through life was marked by her unwavering spirit, care for others, and a love for family that knew no bounds.
Cheri was a truly dedicated professional, having spent her career as a registered nurse at Children’s Hospital. Her passion for helping others led her to work for the Lakota School District as a School Nurse for ten years. Driven by her desire to provide relief to those in need, she studied MFR (Myofascial Release) and established MFR of Mason, where she helped individuals find comfort and healing, reminiscent of the care she had received herself.
Her educational background was notable, holding a bachelor's degree in Nursing from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, followed by a master’s degree in Education and Allied Professions from the University of Dayton. Cheri's bubbly personality was complemented by her determination; it is often said that she was always smiling, bringing joy and warmth to those around her.
Cheri's guiding light was her faith in God, and she often shared her testimony of her transformation through Jesus Christ. She loved to dance and enjoyed music, particularly the Beatles, Pearl Jam, and the '80s genre. Some favorite pastimes were skiing, cooking, travelling, and binging an occasional Netflix series. Above all else, her grandchildren were her greatest treasures; as those close to her would describe it, everything else came second. Affectionately known as “Cher Bear,” she was also called "Nana" by those she loved most deeply, a testament to the special bond she shared with her family.
Cheri’s early life was shaped by frequent relocations due to her father’s work. She moved from New York to Maryland and eventually settled in Ohio, where she built a life filled with love and community.
Cheri is survived by her adoring husband, Dean W. McCurley; her loving daughter, Corrin (Paul) Bittner and step-children, Reagan McCurley, and Colin McCurley; and her cherished grandchildren, Annalynn Bittner, Loraline Bittner, and Thomas Bittner. She is also survived by her father, David (Vicky) St John; her siblings, Bryan (Christy) St John and Michael (Leah) St John; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Sherry McCurley; as well as her sister-in-law, Jamie (Neal Wright). Cheri’s legacy continues through her beloved nieces and nephews, Benjamin, Addyson, Chase, Reid, Alex, Etta, and Eliza.
She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Jane (nee Kane) St John; her paternal grandmother, Anna Mae St John; and her grandmother-in-law, Eleanor "WoWo" Elfers.
A visitation will be held on January 30, 2026, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 6:30 PM, both taking place at Mueller Funeral Home, located at 6791 Tylersville Rd, Mason, Ohio 45040.
