JOIN HERE FOR LIVE VIDEO STREAMING OF THE CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 26 11:00am
Dr. Katherine Lynne Dittmann, daughter, sister and friend, passed away after battling a long illness and went to meet her Heavenly Father on Nov. 16. She was 45.
With an infectious, warm smile, Kathy, also affectionately known by others as Kate, Kat or Dr. Kate, will be remembered for her genuine spirit and deep care for others. If you saw her at a grocery store or passing along the street, she would be quick to flash you a big grin and compliment you. She found something to adore in everyone she met.
Kathy worked as a licensed psychologist for several years and specialized in the treatment of autism. She was beloved by her patients. She had a knack to uplift others in their darkest hours, always quick to offer a listening, loving ear.
Kathy earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology from Andrews University; a bachelor's of science in Psychology from Grand Valley State University; and graduated Lakeshore High School in Stevensville, Mich. (valedictorian, class of 1995). She spent her childhood in Stevensville, Mich., and Marion, Ohio. For the last 17 years, she had resided in Knoxville, Tenn.
To her family, Kathy was known for her sense of humor, fierce determination in all obstacles, and her loud voice that could light up a room-or even rooms far away, as her family would often tease. She loved to do over-the-top displays of affection by spoiling her beloved nieces and nephews with "Crazy Aunt Kate" days, which often involved silly challenges, supersized candy and sweets (going above and beyond by even picking out each marshmallow from a Lucky Charms box to their delight), and fulfilling every childhood present dream imaginable. The number one rule on "Crazy Aunt Kate" days: There were no rules.
Just days before she passed, she reflected on her life: "I can sum it up in one word: Love. I just wanted to love people. All people. As hard as I possibly could."
Kathy is survived by her mother Brenda Dittmann and father Dr. Paul Dittmann; her brother David (Dr. Shannon) Dittmann, nephew Nathan and nieces Alyssa and Abigail; sister Melissa (Sean) Tracey, and nephews, Conner, Austin and Noah. She was preceded in death by grandparents Fred and Iris Dittmann; aunt Linda Mills; grandparents Raymond and Pauline Chapman; and uncle Dr. Jay Dittmann.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in her honor to First Assembly of God Camdenton Church, 1086 N Business Rte. 5, Camdenton, Mo. 65020, or the American Lung Association, in care of Click Funeral Home, 11915 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tenn. 37934.
