Elsie A. Bohlander (née Kahl), of West Chester, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the age of 94. She was born Thursday, November 4, 1926 in Dayton, Ohio to German immigrants, Hugo and Bertha (née Rebmann) Kahl.
March 5, 1955, Elsie married her husband of 65 years, Karl M. Bohlander. Family would define much of her life, and together they raised two wonderful daughters who blessed them with two sons-in-law and three grandsons.
Gifted with a natural artistic talent, Elsie was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, and crocheter. During the past three decades she became a passionate quilter, winning multiple awards for her style, design, skill, and creative use of color. The masterpieces that fill her home are heirlooms of love and dedication.
She would pour this passion into every inch of her home, from her extensive garden full of various flowers and vegetables, to her collections of candles created alongside her daughters. This same creativity and her naturally beautiful voice drove her to explore music. Her thirst for travel sent her across Europe, northern Africa, and all corners of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. The family particularly treasures memories of summer fishing vacations on Canada’s Lake Huron. Even as world travel became more difficult, Elsie would still keep herself active as often as possible — becoming an avid attendee of classes for both water aerobics and yoga.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, and older brothers, Edward, Elmer, Ray, and Martin.
Elsie is survived by: husband, Karl M. Bohlander; daughters, Nancy (Keith) Ratajczak, and Maria (Karl) Richey; grandchildren, Tyler Ratajczak, Blair "Rainy" Richey, and Brice "Nicky" Richey; and other loving family members and friends.
Elsie will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
