Fred John Eck, Jr., passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, in West Chester, Ohio. Born on July 30, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, Fred lived a life marked by warmth, dedication, and an infectious love for laughter.

A proud son of Fred and Claire (nee Hanrahan) Eck, Sr., Fred entered the United States Air Force immediately following his high school graduation. He celebrated his 18th birthday while serving his country, setting the tone for a lifetime of commitment and service. After his military tenure, Fred devoted his entire career to Human Resources, building enduring relationships with colleagues who remained dear to him long after his professional retirement.  Following his retirement at age 67, Fred went on to become a college professor, teaching business for 10 years.

Fred was a true people person—loud, friendly, and outgoing. His love for jokes and comedy was well-known; he delighted in telling and hearing them, and he cherished attending comedy shows that sparked his laughter and joy. This joyful spirit extended to his personal life, where he was a steadfast presence at his beloved grandchildren’s many activities, always ready to support and encourage.

Tennis was one of Fred’s great passions. He enjoyed playing doubles with many partners over the years, but treasured most his games alongside his daughter, Heather. For 36 consecutive summers, Fred volunteered at the Western & Southern Open tennis tournament, demonstrating his commitment not only to the sport but to the community it fostered. His enthusiasm extended to being a dedicated fan of the Cincinnati Reds baseball team, a testament to his love of local tradition and sport.

Above all else, Fred’s proudest accomplishment was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Karen Rae (nee Prince) Eck; his daughters, Kim (Scott) Mueller and Heather (Rob Hooper) Perkins; and his grandchildren, Cameron Mueller, Avery Mueller, Bryson Mueller, Andre Goodwin, and Kaden Perkins. He is also remembered fondly by his sister, Sherri Phelps, and brother, Leo (Cathy) Eck, along with many loving family members and friends who were touched by his warmth.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Claire Eck, Sr., and his brother, Edgar “Cork” Eck.

A Memorial Gathering to honor Fred’s remarkable life will take place on May 29, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, located at 6791 Tylersville Rd, Mason, Ohio 45040. It will be a time to celebrate a man who embodied a zest for life, an unwavering loyalty to family and friends, and a generous spirit that will be profoundly missed.
