Frederic 'Rick' Schatz

August 21, 1944 — January 1, 2021

Frederic “Rick” R. Schatz, 76, of Mason, OH passed away peacefully on January 1, 2021. Rick was born in Cincinnati to Robert and Jane Schatz on August 21, 1944. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1967 with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering and achieved an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1969.

Rick is survived by his beloved wife Sharon (nee Stull), his three sons, Mark (Leah), Brett (Betsy), and Tim (Sarah) Schatz, sister Barbara Argabright, and loving grandchildren, Anna, Kara, Emma, Corinne, Ella, Rachel, Ellen, Sophie, Matthew, Nora, and Emily.

Rick attended Woodward High School and was one of the best golfers in the city of Cincinnati at the time.  He loved baseball and was a lifelong Reds fan, never giving up on the team.  He was also a University of Cincinnati Bearcat fan.

While living in Boston, Rick gave his life to Jesus at Newton Presbyterian Church during a renewal conference led by Reverend Jerry Kirk. Rick and Sharon started attending College Hill Presbyterian Church when they returned from Boston in 1969.  Rick spent many years working for Xomox in Blue Ash and was very successful there as Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  In order to reduce travel and spend more time with his family, Rick developed Surf Cincinnati Waterpark in 1984.  From 1984 to 1990, Rick ran Surf Cincinnati and then sold the waterpark to begin his work in Christian ministry at the National Coalition Against Pornography (now PureHOPE).  Rick, who did not believe in retirement, continued to work passionately as part of several ministries and as a member of the Ellison Corporation Board of Directors. Through the years, he served as a Founding Elder and Building Campaign Director of Evangelical Community Church, President of PureHOPE, Executive Director of the Religious Alliance Against Pornography, and Chief Operating Officer of the Prayer Covenant. He was part of the International Council on Biblical Inerrancy from 1977-1987, Chairman of the John Guest Crusade in the late 1980s, and he completed writing the book Ordinary People, Extraordinary God in 2020 .

While Rick had many professional accomplishments and personal successes, he valued his family and commitment to his Savior, Jesus Christ, above all.

The Schatz Family has requested private services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rick Schatz Charitable Fund so our family can support various organizations and individuals in honor of Rick such as Evangelical Community Church, Prayer Covenant, Religious Alliance Against Pornography, Christian Dance Alliance, and PureHOPE.
