Frederick M. White (2/16/32 – 5/24/24)
Born in Carlisle, PA to Florence and Fred White, Fred grew up as the oldest child of a military family. He attended college at California Polytechnic State University where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. During his tenure at Cal Poly, he also met a young woman named Bert at a church social, who became his wife of nearly 69 years.
Fred spent his professional career working for various manufacturers around the US, including Jenn-Air, Maytag, Norge, and a long stint at General Electric Appliance Park in Louisville. He holds 9 patents, including one for an early version of a through-the-door water dispenser for a refrigerator.
Fred and Bert had 4 children, who were primarily raised in Louisville, Ky. Sadly, he was pre-deceased by 3 of them: Jeff (Evelyn) White, Pat (Angie) White, and Teresa (Tim) Wolf. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Sandra (Cameron) Kelley, along with 5 grandchildren.
Fred loved tennis, playing for the Cal Poly team and continuing to play into his 80’s. For many years he drove a Cadillac, his favorite car. He was a long time active member of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, and volunteered there in a variety of ways. For a period of time he helped in the jobs ministry, teaching seminars on resume building, interviewing, and so forth. He loved researching and leading Bible Studies, and he and Bert hosted many studies in their home over the years. He spoke often about the Holy Spirit, a favorite subject of his.
Fred enjoyed watching movies with his grandkids, giving hugs to everyone, and waving goodbye until your car went out of sight as you left his house. He wrote a Christmas letter for years, full of pictures and family info, along with text of various sizes, colors, underlined sections, and the story of Jesus. At any given time he was busy compiling endless notes, working on a bible study PowerPoint slide, his taxes (often filed late), or the Christmas letter (also frequently late), all of which took him more time to complete than it should. :)
