Gregory Robert Tharp, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025, at the age of 77, in Middletown, Ohio. Born on August 31, 1947, in Ashland, Ohio, Greg lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to his family and friends.

He was the son of Myron and Pearl (Mowrer) Tharp, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his infant twin son, Andrew Robert. Greg is survived by his devoted wife, Jill (nee Chandler) Tharp, who was not only his high school sweetheart but also the love of his life for an incredible 57 years. Their union was a testament to the power of love, as they built a family and a life filled with joy and warmth.

Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Nikki (Randall) Tharp Holtke and Alison Tharp, who carry forward Greg's legacy of kindness and strength. Greg took immense pride in being a grandfather to his cherished grandchildren, Megan Holtke and Emma "Eddie" Holtke, who brought endless joy and laughter into his life.

Greg was also blessed with a supportive family that included his brother, William(Sandy) Tharp, along with many dear childhood friends and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss his gentle spirit and infectious laughter.

A man of many talents, Greg was known for his fantastic storytelling ability that could make anyone laugh until they cried. He embodied kindness, generosity, and wisdom, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. His deep knowledge of history, particularly World War II, was remarkable, reflecting his passion for learning and sharing stories that would inspire and educate others.

Throughout his life, Greg pursued various hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He loved building and flying remote-controlled planes, riding motorcycles, and indulging in the great outdoors through hunting and fishing. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing golf, tennis, and bowling.

An innovative mind with a knack for hands-on projects, Greg relished the opportunity to solve problems and tackle challenges. He approached every task with enthusiasm and skill, earning the admiration and respect of his colleagues throughout his long and successful career in engineering. Beginning in 1967 with ARMCO Building Systems, Greg made significant contributions to the engineering and manufacturing of large commercial steel buildings. His work evolved from producing engineering drawings as a draftsman to becoming a structural steel detailer, where he specialized in creating intricate fabrication drawings for complex building components. He later transitioned to Nucor Building Systems, where he continued to excel until his well-earned retirement in 2013.

Greg's legacy will endure not only through his family but also through the countless lives he touched during his career. He is remembered fondly by his coworkers for his kindness, humor, meticulous attention to detail, and his unwavering willingness to help others—qualities that defined his character and enriched the lives of those around him.
