Hazel V. Maushart (née Brewster) March 15, 1941 – August 20, 2025
Hazel V. Maushart, age 84, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, under the compassionate care of Hospice of Middletown.
Born on March 15, 1941, in Nancy, Kentucky, Hazel made her home in this area for the past 54 years. She was known to many in the community through her work in the deli and bakery departments at various Kroger stores, where she was especially proud of her work as a cake decorator. Her grandchildren cherished visiting her at work—knowing they’d always get a free cookie and a warm smile from Grandma.
Hazel had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed traveling, golfing, and going out to lunch with her friends. A lifelong reader, she could often be found with a good book in hand. Her love for flower gardening was known throughout her neighborhood, earning her several "Beautification Awards" for her vibrant and carefully tended yard. She also never passed up the opportunity to enjoy a great glass of wine.
Hazel was the beloved mother of Marisa (Scott) Curry, Marty Baumeister, and Matthew (Kristy) Bond. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Andrew (Jayde) Baumeister, Heather (Brian) West, Alex (April) Curry, Matthew Clark, Jordan (Janie) Bond, and Amie Baumeister. She was lovingly known as "ZZ" to her great-grandchildren: Landon, Declan, Aidan, Laci, Dryce, Livi, Cole, Gunner, Noah, and Hazel.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law Phyllis Brewster, many nieces and nephews, and countless cherished friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and humor.
Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Robert Maushart, who passed away in March of this year. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary (née Burton) Brewster, and her siblings: Kenneth Brewster, Carthel “Bruce” Brewster, Hershel “Elliott” Brewster, Darwin “Pete” Brewster, Zula (Jesse) Ashlock, and Betty (Casey) Hislope.
Hazel leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and beautiful memories. She will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing her.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 25, 2025 from 9:00 am until the time of her funeral service at 10:00 am at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason. Inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in her memory to Hospice Care of Middletown. www.hospicecareofmiddletown.org
