Our loving mother, Imogene J. Gilbert (nee Johnson), passed peacefully on August 30, 2024, in her home at the age of 95. She was born on June 5, 1929, in Wyoming, Ohio; grew up in Lockland and graduated from Lockland High School.
In 1950 she married the love of her life, Benjamin T. Gilbert, after he graduated from The Ohio State University. While raising her family she continued her education, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University followed by a master’s degree in education administration from Xavier University.
Imogene went on to work as a principal at Mason Heights Elementary in the Mason School District until her retirement. She loved music, singing, and was an accomplished pianist and organist.
Throughout the years she served in several churches, primarily as church organist, for most of her adult life. As of late she was a member of Hope Church in Mason, Ohio. She loved people, was very sociable and had many cherished friends. She enjoyed nature, gardening, animals (especially her little dogs) and traveling with her husband in their RV.
Imogene was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who was always supportive in offering wisdom and love in abundance.
Preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Jessie (nee Reed) Johnson, her husband, Benjamin T. Gilbert, and her beloved brothers, Reverend Raymond Johnson and Dewey Johnson.
Survived by her children, Denise (Jim) Trammel, Gary T. (Billie) Gilbert and Vanna Rae (Greg) Burgess, beloved grandchildren, Mindy (Tony) Moore, JT Trammel, Ben (Kelsey) Gilbert, Erin (Matt) Macdonald, Shelley (David) Kumpf, Mark (Stephanie) Burgess, great grandchildren, Lauren, Morgan and Ava Moore, James David and Rachel Trammel, Belle and Caroline Gilbert, Hazel and Max Macdonald, Coen, Elliot and Barrett Kumpf and Clark and Michaela Burgess.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 9th from 10:00AM-11:00AM with a funeral service at 11:00AM all at Hope Church, 4934 Western Row Rd, Mason, OH 45040. Interment to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mason.
