JoAnn (nee Gabrin) Komanecky, age 83 of West Chester, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, from complications from Alzheimer's. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, A. Nicholas Komanecky of West Chester; her sons, Brian J. Komanecky of Florida and Mark A. Komaneckv (Jennifer M. Thumm) of Hyde Park; grandsons Alexander and Noah; in addition to many extended family members. She was predeceased by an infant son, Craig Nicholas; her parents, John and Anna Gabin; and a sister, Monica.
A native of Uniontown, PA, she graduated from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. JoAnn was assistant to the Vice President of Manufacturing of Rockwell Manufacturing Company and later was an assistant to physicians in the Department of Surgery, West Virginia University Medical Center, Morgantown.
JoAnn was a warm, pleasant person with an endearing smile. Her husband Nick would say that "she has a smile that warms all hearts.... mine most of all." JoAnn made good and lasting friends in the many places she lived and stayed in touch with them over the years. Above all, she relished being a mother and grandmother. When asked if their mother worked, her sons would reply that she was a "professional mother."
While living in Fairfield, CT, JoAnn loved going with her family by train to New York City to enjoy Broadway plays, the colorful lights and window displays of the city, and dinner in various restaurants. While living in Ithaca, NY, she enjoyed student musicals, dramatic performances and sporting events at Cornell University and Ithaca College with friends. JoAnn joined her husband for executive addresses and business dinners at Cornell. During summers in the Finger Lake Region, she loved having lunch at its wineries overlooking the lakes.
Jo Ann was a parishioner of St. Susanna Parish in Mason and a member of its Young at Heart Club where she served on its board. Visitation will be on Monday, April 20, 2026, at St Susanna Church, 616 Reading Road, Mason, OH, from 10:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
