Joanne Callahan, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at the age of 93 in West Chester Township, OH. Born on April 9, 1932, in Somerset, OH, she devoted her life to her family and to fostering connections that brought warmth and love to all who knew her.
Joanne found joy in life’s simple pleasures and in sharing kindness with others. She was an avid card player—especially Bridge and Euchre—and she loved playing board games with her grandchildren and great‑grandchildren. She regularly surrounded herself with friends and family, hosting gatherings for her Bridge and investment clubs, holiday celebrations, and many memorable beach vacations up and down the East Coast. She was often the champion of tournament‑style games during family get‑togethers and beach trips. Her welcoming and considerate presence touched countless lives in the four states where she and her family made their home over the years.
Throughout her life, Joanne embraced her role as a mother and as a guiding light for her family. She is survived by two of her children, Tim (Kathy) Callahan and Anne (Mark) Cerrezin. She took immense pride in her family and in her role as a grandmother to nine grandchildren and great‑grandmother to 18 great‑grandchildren. Joanne was predeceased by her loving husband of 44 years, Walter; her daughter, Colleen (Bobby Goldwater); her son, John; her sister, Mary Margaret Yourchik; and her parents, John and Agnes Flautt.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 13, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9080 Cincinnati Dayton Road, West Chester Township, OH 45069, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will take place on Saturday, February 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Cemetery, 228 S. Columbus Street, Somerset, OH 43783, preceded by a 10:00 a.m. visitation at Bope‑Thomas Funeral Home, 203 S. Columbus Street, Somerset.
