We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Muhammad Nawaz on October 19th, 2020 at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Iqbal Nawaz, his daughter Dr. Sara Nawaz of Cincinnati and son Salman Nawaz of Irvine, California as well as multiple beloved extended family, including that of long-time friends.
Dr. Nawaz received his PhD in Educational Psychology as well as a masters degree in history while attending Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He was Assistant Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Chair of the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of West Alabama where he was engaged in administration, teaching and research. He co-authored a book and many scholarly articles during his tenure. He was a passionate teacher and was beloved by the many students he taught over the years.
After his retirement, he continued his scholarly ways, immersing himself in the understanding and education of comparative religions, publishing several books on the topic. He also participated in multiple interfaith dialogue sessions throughout the Cincinnati area, hoping to bring more peace, compassion and understanding to our community.
Dr. Nawaz will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know his intellect, compassion and gentleness of spirit.
