Nancy Carrell, 73, was called home to the Lord on September 12, 2025, in West Chester, Ohio, surrounded in spirit by the family she so dearly loved. Born on February 6, 1952, in Orlando, Florida, to Andrew Nicholas and Helen (Gentile) Serros, Nancy had a wonderful gift for listening, the most gracious heart, and boundless empathy and love.
A proud graduate of Florida State University, Nancy’s time there brought her both an education and the love of her life, Wyatt Carrell. They married in 1975 and began a 50-year partnership defined by devotion to God, faith, laughter, and the daily choice to put one another first. Their home became the gathering place for family, friends, and anyone blessed to cross their threshold.
Nancy was simply the best mother, wife, and person in the world; tender, loving, and abundantly kind. She was a master of organization and delighted in crafting lists and plans for her children’s and grandchildren’s milestones, making each celebration feel personal and perfect. She poured herself out for her family, sacrificing without fanfare and showing up in a thousand faithful ways. Her homemade birthday cakes, each theme chosen with care, were her expression of intentionality and love.
For 22 years, Nancy served the children and families of Shawnee Elementary School in the Lakota Local Schools as a beloved secretary. She offered steady help, quiet prayers, and the gentle excellence of someone who treated every task as a ministry. Colleagues became friends, and countless young lives were brightened by her patience and kindness.
Nancy closely tended to her health with daily walks and swims. She was “solar powered,” and found peace on the beach, by the pool, and surrounded by the flowers of her garden. In retirement, she traveled through Europe and all around America, the country she loved. Wherever she went, she carried her faith, her gratitude, and her abiding joy in the people God gave her to love.
She is survived by her loving husband, Wyatt; their children, Matt (Kristina) Carrell, Christin (Zak) Stegman, and Theresa (Will) Reed; and the grandchildren who were the light of her life: Ronan and Cole Carrell; Simon, Ryland, Violet, and Loralei Stegman; and Ellie, Audrey, and Tallie Reed. Nancy is also survived by her sisters, Marianne Lyon, Carolyn (Fran) Mullin, Shirley Welch, and Joanne Serros, and by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She joins in eternal rest; her parents Andrew and Helen Serros; her brother, Victor Serros; and her brother-in-law, Bill Lyon. We take comfort in knowing she now watches over the family and friends she cherished so dearly.
A visitation will be held at West Chester Presbyterian Church, on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with a reception at the church to follow. All who were touched by Nancy’s life are warmly invited to gather, share stories, and give thanks for her beautiful witness of love.
Nancy delighted in flowers; those wishing to send them may have them delivered Saturday evening or Sunday before 12:00 PM to West Chester Presbyterian Church (8930 Cincinnati Dayton Rd, West Chester Township, OH 45069). For all others, in the spirit of how Nancy lived, her family invites you to honor her by extending kindness to others; help a neighbor, lend a hand to a friend, or offer a simple smile or prayer to a stranger.
May her legacy of generosity and grace continue in us, for she now rejoices in heaven, welcomed in jubilation by the angels and embraced by those she loves. You are so loved, Nancy.
