Robert Eugene Winters, 86 of Mason, passed away on March 11, 2024. Born to Beryl and Mary (nee Akes) Winters on November 28, 1937, in Xenia, Illinois in a tiny farmhouse.
Bob was a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and Kansas State University where he received his PhD in chemistry. He went on to work for P & G for over 30 years as a chemist and a research director.
He was a devoted grandfather who loved spending time with his grandchildren. Bob never missed an athletic outing of theirs, he lit up when little Miles entered the room and one of his favorite things to do was take his grandkids to the Waffle House.
Bob was a collector. He had hundreds of baseball cards, old cars, lanterns and even a juke box. He loved to go out to the garage and work on his cars, his favorite being his 1955 Chevy and his 1956 T Bird.
Bob took pride in his yardwork and loved being outside. A caring, giving and kind sole. He had a hidden strength when he battled treatment for years, he was determined to get through it.
Preceded in death by his parents, Beryl and Mary Winters and his brother, Bunk Peeler.
Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Winters, children, Kelly (Jeff) Richards and Michael (Wendy Szymczak) Winters, and his beloved grandchildren, Courtney Richards and Kyle Richards and Miles Winters.
Private services will be held by the family.
