Roy Lee Ballard

June 28, 1966 — May 16, 2025

Roy Lee Ballard, age 58, passed away unexpectedly on May 16, 2025, leaving a profound void in the lives of those who loved him.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, to Bobby and the late Thursa (nee Smith) Ballard, Roy was a bright light from the very beginning. He pursued higher education with passion, earning his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Wright State University, followed by a master’s in electrical engineering from the University of Dayton.

Roy’s legacy continues through his beloved wife, Deborah, and his cherished children: Courtney (Tony) Buchenroth, Caitlin (Michael) Tekulve, Alexis (Tommy) Adwani, Jackson Norman, and Natalie Norman and his adoring puppy girl Smoke. He was a proud grandfather to Tatum, Logan, George, Ethan, Asher, Emma, and a baby Adwani on the way. Roy is also survived by his dad Bobby Ballard, his sister-in-law Fayrene Hinkle-Ballard, his niece Gini (Danny) Lowery, as well as extended family members, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Roy was preceded in death by his mom, Thursa and brother, Lloyd Ballard.

With a remarkable career that spanned 37 years with the United States Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Roy was highly regarded for his intellect and professional achievements, later taking on the role of Chief Engineer at Matrix Research. Yet, beyond his accolades, what brought him the greatest pride was his family. Roy was the quintessential Christian family man who treasured every moment spent with his loved ones. His sense of humor and zest for life made gatherings filled with laughter, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Roy and Deborah’s love story blossomed when they married on May 19, 2023. Deborah fondly recalls knowing early in their relationship that he was the one, as their first date would remain the best she ever had.

Roy loved to travel and explore new places but was always a true Daytonian at heart. Roy wore his hometown pride with joy, often weaving tales that celebrated Dayton's spirit. A loyal Ohio State University fan, he enjoyed every playful banter with Deborah, a Michigan supporter, adding a delightful layer of competition to their loving household.

Roy's absence will be felt deeply by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His warmth and humble humor to laugh at himself with others will always resonate with his closest friends. We ask that you remember him not for how his life abruptly ended but for the spiritual and caring way it was lived.

Visitation honoring Roy’s life will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 4:00 PM until the time of service at 6:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, located at 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040.
