Sarah Adelle Stewart-Dunbar, age 77, of Wyoming, Ohio, died peacefully in her sleep on January 30, 2026, after a courageous fight with Alzheimer's disease. Her enchanted spirit shined until the very end. She was born on May 9, 1948, in Lancaster, Ohio, to Dana Stewart and Frieda (Kirn) Stewart.
Sarah graduated from Hillsdale College and went on to devote 32 years to teaching at Fairfield North Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless students with her dedication, charisma, and talents.
Outside of her career, Sarah embraced life fully. She found great joy in summers spent either at the Trout Club with the Stewarts or on Cape Cod with friends. She cherished her love of sailing, travel, art, and music- passions that reflected her joyful, curious spirit. In 1982, she married Robert “Bob” Dunbar, with whom she shared many happy years until his passing in 2005.
Sarah was a faithful member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She had many significant friendships and had the rare gift of making friends wherever she went. Her presence filled the room and her conversation never seemed to end. She made the best brownies.
Sarah is survived by her son, Andrew (Christy) Dunbar; her granddaughter, Brooklyn Panzarella; her niece, Ann Stewart Eidson; her grandnephew Aaron Hunt; her brother-in-law, Frank (Jeanine) Dunbar; and her niece, Kristen Dunbar. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her brother, Fred Stewart; and her sister, Molly Osowski.
A service honoring Sarah’s life will be held on Thursday, February 5, at 6:00 PM, at the Friendship United Methodist Church. Sarah loved a good gathering and believed deeply in the joy of coming together; all who knew and loved her are warmly invited to attend and share in remembrance.
