Thelmer "JR" Ellison, a cherished family man and skilled craftsman, passed away on February 11, 2026, in Middletown, at the age of 71. Born on July 27, 1954, in Casey County, Kentucky, JR lived a life dedicated to hard work and nurturing his loved ones.
A devoted truck driver, JR took great pleasure in driving over the road. His work extended beyond the highways, as he was also known as an auto crusher and metal hauler. Friends and family admired his ability to fix almost anything, a reflection of his ingenuity and resourcefulness. Deeply passionate about vehicles, he loved cars and enjoyed working on them as often as possible. His fondness for old tractors was evident, as he delighted in taking his grandchildren for rides, whether on the tractor or in a gator, creating lasting memories that they will treasure forever.
JR had a softhearted nature and was a man of few words, yet his actions spoke volumes. He appreciated the simple pleasures in life, often enjoying a cold Budweiser beer while watching his favorite old westerns, especially the classic series Gunsmoke.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia "Patti" Ellison; daughters, Melanie (Isauro Gonzalez) Ellison, Julie Bell, and Katie (Brandon Earls) Bell; son, Jonnie Waugh; and numerous grandchildren, including Magdalena Gonzalez, Shaman Harris, Landen Bell, Lukus Earls, Aliviya Earls, Lucille Waugh, Mary (Kasey) Brooks, Megan Bryant, and Madison Bryant. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Nova Bryant, Ripley Brooks, and Riley Brooks. JR is further survived by his sisters and brothers Wanda, Cora Ellen, Lee, Mickey, and Thelma, and Ronald.
JR Ellison was predeceased by his son, Thelmer Ellison III, his daughter, Michelle Bryant, and his sister, Frieda, as well as his beloved parents, Thelmer and Catherine Ellison. His legacy of hard work, love for his family, and passion for life will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
Visitation services for JR will be held on February 16, 2026, at Mueller Funeral Home in Mason, Ohio, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Those who wish to pay their respects are welcomed to join during this time to honor his memory and the impact he had on the lives of many.
